This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
