There are those on the political spectrum who offer only complaints: Labour is getting on with the job of financial revitalization.
In the latest financial plan, the correct decisions were taken for Britain, cutting the cost of energy with savings of £150 on utilities, protecting the NHS and tackling the scourge of child poverty by removing the two-child limit. We also ensured that the funds collected through taxes was done fairly, with each person chipping in but those with the greatest capacity bearing an appropriate burden.
Because of the policies implemented, the budget fostered greater economic stability, reducing price increases and state borrowing costs. This is vital for protecting our public services, when one pound in every ten expended by government goes on debt interest.
Expanding Economic Measures
The announcement strengthens the action we have already taken to improve the economy: allocating £120 billion in additional funding in such things as highways, railways and utilities; implementing major regulatory changes in a generation to back builders, not blockers; supporting the expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick; and signing trade deals with the EU, India and the US.
Taken together, these have allowed us to outperform our expansion estimates.
Rejuvenating Our State
As I outlined at the party conference, the government’s purpose is nothing less than the renewal of our financial system, our localities and our government. Via these methods, we will end decline and restore faith in our country.
We will confront those on the both sides who only offer complaints and whose approach would lead to continued weakening. Allow me to state unequivocally, increasing public debt or bringing back fiscal restraint – that is the strategy of degradation and I will not accept it.
An Extensive Expansion Agenda
Through remarks coming soon, I will place the budget in context within the broader commercial rejuvenation on which the government will be judged at the end of this parliament.
To accomplish the countrywide revitalization we seek, we must do more to promote development, to tackle inactivity among young people and to aim for stronger worldwide collaboration with our trading partners.
Regulatory Reform Initiative
Our growth mission will include a refreshed emphasis on eliminating needless bureaucracy. Frequently it was those on the left who have supported restrictions, but there is nothing forward-thinking in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to hinder financial expansion unnecessarily, or stop a progressive administration achieving its aims.
This is the reason I am asking the business secretary to address the category of pointless gold-plating and needless paperwork that increase expenses and get in the way of our industrial strategy.
Benefits System Overhaul
Economic renewal also demands that we must continue to reform the welfare state. We assumed control of a dysfunctional apparatus that resulted in impoverished youth going hungry and which discarded youth as unfit for labor.
We should not endorse either part of that ineffective right-wing framework. That is why we will do more to support adolescents in reaching their abilities.
For when people are neglected in your early career, if you are denied the assistance you need to manage emotional difficulties, or if you are just discounted because you are experiencing cognitive variations or handicaps, then it can imprison you in a loop of unemployment and reliance for decades.
This creates economic costs, is harmful to our efficiency, but much more importantly, it takes away opportunity and disregards ability. Any progressive administration worthy of the name should not overlook it.
That is why we have appointed an ex-health minister to make implementable proposals to help young people with medical issues obtain employment, training or education – guaranteeing they receive assistance to thrive and not sidelined.
International Trade Enhancement
Finally, we have to do more to help our businesses conduct global commerce. There is no credible economic vision for Britain that does not establish us as a accessible, commercial nation.
We need to acknowledge the reality that the poorly executed departure agreement considerably harmed our commerce. It isn't necessary to have a PhD in economics to know that constructing needless commercial obstacles with your primary business associate will impede expansion and increase expenses.
Therefore a component of our economic renewal will be maintaining progress in the direction of a stronger commercial partnership with the EU. Should we obtain less expensive nourishment, boost growth and create jobs by having a closer relationship with the EU, we should.
A Meaningful Approach for Major Issues
An economic package built on just selections for Britain must be supported by resolve to achieve the financial revitalization that the country needs.
Through implementing a substantial, courageous extended strategy, not a set of quick fixes, we will renew Britain. We should evolve anew a serious people, with a serious government, able collectively to undertake challenging tasks to regain control of our future.
Through maintaining a distinct purpose to renew our economy, our communities and our state, we will implement the transformation we pledged – and then be judged on it at the next election.
