The Young Spinner Earns Surprise Inclusion in English Ashes Squad
England have opted for a twelve-player selection just 48 hours before the opening Test match, with Shoaib Bashir securing a unexpected spot.
The 22-year-old’s inclusion indicates that the visiting team will wait until the day of the first Test to decide whether Perth Stadium conditions favor four seamers or the addition of a spinner.
Both pace bowlers are part of the selected group, indicating there are no concerns about their fast bowler's condition.
The other seamers round out the attack, with Carse most likely to miss out if Bashir makes the starting XI.
Ground Conditions Favor Seamers
Brendon McCullum had been anticipated to choose an pace-only lineup on a ground that has staged several previous Tests.
During these games, the majority of dismissals have fallen to seamers, with only 40 to spin.
Of those 40 wickets, the veteran spinner has claimed the bulk, while all visiting spinners combined have only eight.

Alternative Choices Considered
There had been rumors that Will Jacks could be brought into the side to offer some spin while additionally bolstering the lower order.
But McCullum has chosen to stick with the young spinner, having said previously that he would be his first-choice slow bowler for the series.
Earlier, Lyon described Bashir as “OK,” saying that “from my perspective, Jack Leach is still the English best spinner.”
