The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would become a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular program reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
