The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
