The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
