Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
