Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United only seven months after leading disrespectful songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting insulting chants about Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder
The pair had a past before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
