Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Fix the Anime's Biggest Debate

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original feature. Rather, the newest film from the JuJutsu Kaisen fantasy saga is a compilation of the series' second installment merged with the first two episodes of its upcoming season, which kicks off the Culling Games storyline from the source material. This makes Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the first way to view the start of the next season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The film debuts in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Games storyline, Top-tier jujutsu user Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the television series and is tasked by jujutsu officials to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight takes place for the very first time on the big screen, and if the animators at Mappa have a treat as the two-part Thunderclap episodes prepared for fans this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that we've been waiting for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequences in animated series lore, despite the significant debate in 2023 when the episodes first debuted. It was stated that the animation team were suffering from crunch conditions to the point, and the released version that was shown at the time was incomplete and supposedly not what the animators initially intended.

The Epic Battle

The sequence involves a heavily anticipated fight between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna versus Mahoraga. It includes innovative art style, excellent direction, and intense action. A subsequent home video edition provided an opportunity to include extra footage to enhance the battle. So it seemed possible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, viewing the latest preview, it's unclear if that battle has been given extra attention. It'd be a disappointment if it didn't, because a moment so epic has to be watched on the cinema screen with the best presentation possible.

Season Two's Achievement

The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when the Thunderclap episodes were released back to back, it was the subject of discussion for weeks in the series' fanbase. Audiences had heard of the production challenges, which made them appreciate what they saw even more. People clamored to see if the Blu-ray, launched in mid-March, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was polished at all, and were thrilled to see just that, alongside color corrections, enhanced animation, and different color grading.

The Film's Potential

But the Blu-ray can only improve what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the movie has the chance to do the sequence justice with additional alterations and new animations entirely.

A Magnum Opus

Currently, these episodes act as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by Mappa, particularly given the debate they underwent at the time. It's drawn the focus of series enthusiasts all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of the coming year. If the production company wants to kick off the year perfectly, run back the show's top scene once again in movie houses with the ultimate presentation we've witnessed to date.
